Today we went on a fantastic ride at China camp in San Rafael. We started with a break in the weather, and took the regular trail up until we got to the towers where we split into two groups. Our group went up to the Nike site and then it began to rain. On the way down I saw a sign showing 1.3 miles to the shoreline trail. We took that turn, but it was a big mistake. A storm earlier in the year blew down a couple of trees and that section of the trail turned out to be impossible.
We then walked backed up and took the Shoreline trail down. By now we were really soaked.
Going down the trail that we normally go up with was a nice chage. The trails were designed to drain well and apart from a puddle here and there, the rest of the trail turned out to be really good.

I was taking pictures at this turn in the trail at the mountain bike state championships at Boggs mountain when this guy's chain just snapped, right here in front of me. He did not have a chain tool and had to accept outside help in order to finish the race. The help gave him a penalty of 5 minutes. In case you did not notice, he was wearing the leader's jersey, indicating that he had an excellent chance to won the state championship if it was not for this episode.
